Here are pieces using the
Japanese technique of Kumihimo. "Kumihimo" means "the gathering of threads" and this ancient
Japanese fiber art dates back to 700AD. Samurai warriors used the results of kumihimo braiding as body armor as well
as hilts for their swords. If the braiding is done correctly the results are very strong with only the sharpest of swords
able to cut it. Today kumihimo is used to make the "obijime" or tie for the "obi" or sash in traditional
Japanese clothing as well as other decorative items. Originally kumihimo was done only using fine silk cord but today
wire, thread, and beads are used. It is a labor intensive endeavor requiring some degree of focus to keep the beads going
where they are supposed to go but the results (my opinion) are well worth the effort.
Necklaces are as marked and have
earrings to complement (made with Swarovski crystals or similar). Bracelets are $15.
